Phase 5 · Final Milestone & Public Showcase

Grand Pitch Symposium: Presentation & Deliverable Guidelines

Comprehensive evaluation protocol for the final course milestone: 15-minute public pitch, interactive virtual demonstration, technical dossier compilation, and translation awards.

Course: IDNE 701 (Fall 2026) Milestone Date: Dec 04–11, 2026 (Week 14) Venue: Grand Showcase Salon & Web Stream Instructor: Mark Bolding, PhD

01. The Three Final Course Deliverables

Each student engineering team must submit the tripartite deliverable package prior to final defense:

Deliverable 1: Technical Design Dossier

A comprehensive 25-page technical report covering forward physical formulation, sensor array CAD/schematics, noise budget calculations, reconstruction algorithms, safety dose simulations (SAR/MPE/Thermal), and FDA 510(k)/De Novo regulatory roadmap.

Deliverable 2: Simulation Codebase Repo

A clean, documented GitHub repository containing the end-to-end digital twin: substrate anatomical generator, forward operator, noise/motion injector, and reconstruction/ML biomarker pipeline with reproducible Jupyter notebooks.

Deliverable 3: Executive Pitch Deck & Brief

A polished 15-minute slide deck and 1-page clinical executive summary tailored for venture evaluators, clinical department chairs, and FDA review officers.

02. Symposium Pitch & Live Demo Timing

Time Segment Format & Content Evaluation Focus
00:00 – 08:00 Problem Formulation & Biophysical Innovation Unmet clinical need (Grand Challenge 06), biophysical contrast mechanism, and transducer array architecture.
08:00 – 12:00 Live Interactive Simulation Demonstration Real-time software execution: data stream, motion corruption, reconstruction, and biomarker extraction.
12:00 – 15:00 Safety, Regulatory Roadmap & Clinical Translation FDA classification, predicate device justification, IRB human subjects protocol, and commercialization timeline.
15:00 – 22:00 Guest Panel Defense (Q&A) Rigorous defense against challenging questions from faculty clinicians, engineers, and regulatory mentors.

03. Symposium Awards

🥇 Grand Prize: Best Neuroengineering Innovation

Awarded to the team demonstrating the highest technical rigor in combining novel forward physics with high-performance sensor hardware.

👶 Neonatal Translation Excellence Award

Recognizing the team that best addresses the fragile clinical constraints of Grand Challenge 06 (NICU compatibility, zero-abrasion skin safety, bedside biomarker utility).

💻 Best Computational Pipeline

Awarded for exemplary open-source codebase architecture, algorithmic efficiency, and reproducible inverse reconstruction.
